Conservatory ceiling insulation is fitted beneath a suitable existing glass or polycarbonate roof. The insulation layers are covered with a new PVC or plaster ceiling, creating an opaque internal finish and reducing heat transfer through the roof.
What is installed above the new ceiling?
The exact build-up depends on the roof and specification, but it normally includes a supporting framework, multi-layer insulation, carefully sealed joints and the chosen internal finish. Lighting and other ceiling fittings must be planned as part of the installation.
How does it affect summer comfort?
The insulation can reduce solar heat entering through the roof. Side glazing, direct sun, blinds, ventilation and outdoor temperatures still affect the room, so no fixed temperature reduction can be guaranteed.
How does it affect winter comfort?
Reducing heat loss through the roof can help the conservatory retain warmth for longer. The room still requires suitable heating, and the glazing, doors, floor and draughts influence the final result.
What finishes are available?
PVC is normally the lower-cost, low-maintenance choice. A plaster finish provides a smoother, more traditional appearance and can be redecorated. Compare the options on the PVC and plaster conservatory ceiling page.
Will it reduce rain noise?
The additional layers normally soften the sharp sound of rain and hail on an exposed roof. The amount of improvement depends on the original roof and the weather.
How much does ceiling insulation cost?
Sagars’ current starting price is £1,999 for a PVC insulated ceiling and £2,999 for a plaster-finished ceiling. Roof size, shape, access, condition, lighting and preparation affect the final quotation.
How long does installation take?
Many internal ceiling projects take around one to three days. Complex roof shapes, plaster work, lighting and preparatory repairs can increase the programme.
What should be checked first?
The existing roof and frames should be visually assessed before the underside is covered. Leaks, failed seals, damaged panels and movement should be investigated and resolved. Insulation must not be used to conceal an existing roof defect.
Does planning permission apply?
Internal work that does not materially change the outside of the conservatory will not normally need planning permission. Individual restrictions can differ, and external roof changes may require separate planning or building-control advice.
What guarantee applies?
Sagars provides a 10-year parts guarantee for covered components of the installed insulation system, subject to written terms. It does not cover unrelated existing conservatory defects and is not automatically transferable.
